During this workshop we will discuss the Principles and Standards of Ethics for Clinical Social Workers and Counselors including respect for the client and personal integrity. Ethics is not just a matter of crossing sexual boundaries. We must also consider such issues as: how our illnesses and life stresses impact the work; separations in treatment/abandonment of the client; the wish to parent the (child and adult) client; gifts (from the client and the wish to give to the client). What about dual relationships? What if our values are different from the client's values? Is self disclosure helpful to the client or a narcissistic interference in clinical work? What can you say when asked about your personal life?
