Healing Role of the Arts - DON JONES

  • 25 Jun 2011
  • 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • 8641 Porter Central Rd; Sunbury, OH 43074

The Healing Role of The Arts

Don Jones, aka the ‘father of art therapy’, leads a full day conversation on the healing role of the arts.

Through the use of video, lecture and art exercises Don will share an abundance of knowledge about the healing role of the arts, excerpting from his lifelong experience as a full-time artist-clinician in psychiatry and the expressive arts field.

The conversation will include: illustrating how making artwork facilitates the healing work of art; discussing how art ‘works’, bio-neuroaesthetic brain function and mapping the journey of imagery through the brain (each participant will receive a map to color, trace, visualize); examining neurotheological approaches to art – spiritual, creative, meditative; finding the artist who is in you through graphic exercises and by examining the work of a famous artist who treated himself by painting his own psychological history.

Whether you’re a psychologist, social worker, educator, clergy person, artist, student, are interested in personal healing or just curious!! …this workshop offers a memorable and informative experience set amongst the natural beauty of the Sanctuary.
